I think ultimately whether or not(or how much) people like the 992 will come down to dimensions, weight, and so forth. It’s not like some cars where seeing spy shots is going to really push your opinion one way or the other. But, just in case, here are the best spy shots yet of the 992.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

In terms of dimensions, if this thing gets over 180” long  the backseat better go from “ my kid fits, yay” to “this is doable for an adult.”

It would have to go a long way to be doable for an adult. the 911 back seat is still quite a bit smaller than my 500 Abarth. And in 70k miles I don’ t think anyone older than my 11 year old has been back there.

I really want to believe that people give a shit about weight.... but we live in a world where “sport cars” are pushing the 2 ton mark :/

What happens when we get back into the range of 99_ designations where we've already been?

99 3 > 996 > 997 > 991 > 992 makes all kinds of sense, right?

Let’s make the next one 998, then 990, 994 and 995, just so we can go around in circles again.

Headroom for a normal adult is never going to happen in a 911.

The current 911 clocks in at 3,153 lb. Most people don’t really care about weight, but they do care about performance, and lighter weight makes everything easier in that respect.

My car is ~3700 lbs. Sure wish it was on the other side of 3500!

That’s my big holdup on the current mustang and camaro... I just cannot bring myself to own something over 3500 as a  primary sporting car. I know you can hide a lot of it with clever chassis tuning, but once you’re at the limit of your tires a heavy car will always fee l heavy. That’s what makes my miata such a joy to drive.

Yeah, I bought a used family sedan with a big trunk.

And an NA V8, manual transmission, RWD, and... =)

One day, I’ll have a truly light car again (my oldest starts driving in 5 years).

I do like that little bit of extra weight in a cruiser. My e39 540i/6 was the most comfortable daily I ever had. But at 2 tons, it couldn’t hide the weight when I tried to drive truly hard.

The 991 is larger than the 997, but actually cut out a bit of weight.  the 992 will most likely continue this trend.

The rear seat of a 911 is cramped, of course. But I’m 6'4" and I have lots of headroom in the 997. Even a sunroof.

It barely looks any bigger to me than the 991. And I doubt it will be heavier. Since going water-cooled, Porsche has been really good with managing the 911's weight. The 991 range is lighter than the 997.

Leg space with 2 extra inches would be pretty decent  but headroom is a challenge and I guess that may never be fully solveable...

Well with more ingress room and a little more leg space they could potentially drop the seat slightly...

Just sit like this (but with your knees pulled to your chest).

TBH the legroom situation is much worse.

Well, sure, but what height human could put their butt in the back seat, sit up straight, and not hit their head on the headliner?

I had four seated in the 997 once.

The missus’ sister is 5'8" or 5'9". Missus is 5'5" and had no problem sitting behind her sister upright. The kiddo is the same height and able to sit behind me, but only because she’s a stringbean and folded up her legs like a mantis.

She’s in the mid 5 foot range.

Also, OMG that interior looks so dirty.  dark interior always!

“ Data collected from the federal Centers for Disease Control show that average height for Americans has stabilized in the past 50 years to about 5 feet 9 inches for men and 5 feet 4 inches for women.”

So glad the backs of the seats in my M3 are hard black plastic.

I really do just need to take the family to the local Porsche dealer sometime and see how we’d fit. If it’s all 5 of us, we’re in my wife’s car, but it’d be important for any car I drive to fit me and the 3 kids (11, 9, 5) in reasonable comfort. Seems like it would work, for a while, anyway.

Have I mentioned my desire for them to make the back seats optional in the GT3 Touring?

lol, I think I saw you mention that somewhere.

My GT3 T ouring (or 911T for that matter) would have the LWB’s, so no one would ever fit back there anyway LOL .

A 991.2 GTS would be plusher and more comfortable for hauling kids anyway.

Thats funny, I squeezed us all in when we took the 997 to Porsche’s 70th anniversary celebration at the dealership.

Honestly I’m not really sure if the S is worth it.

The reason to go with the bigger engine was always to get decent midrange torque. You feel a noticeable difference between my car and a 3.6. But with the introduction of the new 3 liter engines, even a base Carrera is really quick and makes lot of midrange torque. The only difference in the engines is the turbos. It’s barely slower than an S.

That’s why I think the Carrera T is appealing. Gets lots of goodies from the GTS and even the GT3, but has the base engine which makes plenty of power.

I really like the GTS though, not just for the engine but for all the other nice stuff that it gets.

Though I guess I should go test drive a T and an S to be sure...

Would be a used, pre-turbo S. My first Porsche will be be an NA flat six.

Look, it’s going to come down to the steering. The 997.2 -> 991.x steering? Total. Fucking. Disaster. Purist bullshit didn’t help matters, but seriously, Porsche has got to have the absolute worst electronic power steering in the business. It has the feedback of a dead snake up to 20 degrees off center. Can’t decide if it’s too much or too little effort.

However, I will crack the fuck up if it turns out these aren’t 911's but actually new Cayman mules. That would be the ultimate in “ha ha, FOOLED YA.”
